Prenatal Care

We provide nurturing and holistic prenatal care. At each appointment your midwife will take the time to answer any questions you have and provide ongoing nutritional counseling, stress management support, and discuss remedies for any discomforts you may have. Partner attendance at your appointments is encouraged and children are always welcome!

Prenatal care includes:

  • One hour initial appointment for lab work, taking a comprehensive medical/obstetric history, and discussing your wishes for your birth

  • One hour appointments every 4 weeks before 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, then weekly until baby arrives

  • All necessary lab work

  • Nutritional counseling and herbal supplementation recommendations

  • Childbirth and breastfeeding education

  • Referrals for early dating ultrasound and anatomy scan at 20 weeks

  • Referrals for any additional testing or necessary follow up

  • Support by text or phone during office hours

  • After hours support and care for emergencies

  • Ongoing risk assessments to ensure your pregnancy remains low risk and appropriate for out of hospital birth

Your Birth

We facilitate safe and natural birth by providing support and keeping close watch on you and your baby.

Throughout your birth we will support you by:

  • Closely monitoring your vital signs and your emotional and physical well being

  • Monitoring baby by intermittent fetal monitoring which is evidence based and standard for low risk pregnancies

  • Encouraging freedom of movement throughout labor and birthing wherever and however your body feels best

  • Utilizing herbal and homeopathic support when needed

  • Offering IV hydration as needed

  • Allowing all of the support people at your birth that you desire

When your baby is born, they will be placed right on your chest. Initial assessments including APGAR scoring takes place there in your arms. We practice delayed cord clamping and encourage skin to skin as well as early initiation of breastfeeding. The first treasured hours with your baby will be respected and a newborn exam will be completed after bonding and breastfeeding has taken place.

Postpartum Care

We provide all routine care for you and your baby for six weeks following your birth. The postpartum period is a sacred and vulnerable time; support and close observation during this time is essential. We plan 3-4 postpartum visits with each family to provide support and ensure your family is not only adjusting well, but thriving.

Postpartum care includes:

  • Postpartum appointments 48 hours, 2 week and 6 weeks postpartum with additional visits as needed

  • Newborn screening testing

  • Breastfeeding support

  • Perinatal mood disorder assessment, support, and appropriate referrals

  • Pelvic floor assessment and referral

  • Supplement and herb recommendation

  • Referral and collaborative care with pediatrician as indicated

  • Follow up lab work

At each appointment we will assess your physical healing, baby’s development and growth, and your emotional adaptation to this new phase of life. We will take time discussing breastfeeding, newborn care, sleeping arrangements, and how your family is adjusting. Together we will address any concerns that you have and support you as you heal. We can provide you with referrals for any additional concerns.
