frequently Asked questions

Why choose a midwife?

A midwife trusts the natural physiological process but is equipped with knowledge and skills to handle complications if they arise. Midwifery incorporates evidence based research with age old wisdom to oversee the natural process, keeping close watch to ensure that the birthing person and baby stay safe. At its core, midwifery trusts that a persons body knows how to birth their baby, and also knows how to ask for help when it’s warranted.

If i use a midwife, do i still see my OB?

Not typically. A midwife can provide all the necessary care for low risk pregnancies. I will refer you to my back up obstetrician for consultation or collaborating care if any complications arise during your pregnancy.

What happens if there is an emergency in labor?

Midwives are trained to recognize “normal” so well that as soon as things start to drift away from normal, we are already thinking ahead and preparing.

We are trained to manage a multitude of complications but we are also aware of our limits and are trained to conduct a smooth, yet speedy transport to the hospital before a complication can become an emergency.
